The Chiefs seem to have drafted their "future" QB in Mahomes, what is Alex Smith's role after this year (I think the team has an option for 2018)? I see them trying to keep him there for this year and next, but next year could be as a backup. Obviously this is a bit of speculation based on limited reps in pre-season, but Mahomes seems to be legit.
Interested to hear thoughts, does anyone follow the Chiefs more closely than I do? I was a big Chiefs fan in grade school. Didn't really become a Utes fan until I went to school at the U, now I follow the Utes more than any team. I watch both when I can, but the family keeps me way too busy to devote that much time to football each week.
Were there ever any rumors of Alex wanting to coach, or stay around football after he retired?
