It's been three years since Álvarez (61-2-2, 39 KOs) united the super middleweight titles and he has since defended the group four times with unanimous-decision wins against Gennadiy Golovkin, John Ryder, Jermell Charlo and Jaime Munguía. He is heavily favored to take care of business against Berlanga, to the point that the biggest question is what he'll do next.
Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs) isn't a nothing opponent, though, and all it could take is one big punch from the 27-year-old to shock the boxing world.
Canelo Alvarez (61-2-2) has won four straight fights and competes for the second time this year. He defeated Jaime Munguia via unanimous decision this past May.
Edgar Berlanga (22-0) knocked out Padraig McCrory in the sixth round this past February in his only appearance of 2024. His previous five fights before McCrory were all decision wins.
Alvarez (61-2-2, 39 knockouts) defends his WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles against Berlanga (22-0, 17 knockouts).
Alvarez, at 34 years old still one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in all of boxing, has been criticized for not agreeing to a matchup with Phoenix native David Benavidez. That ultimately sent Benavidez to the light heavyweight division, and Alvarez fought and defeated Jaime Munguia on another traditional Alvarez fight weekend, Cinco de Mayo.

Canelo is on a four-fight win streak since 2022, beating Jaime Munguia in May. It took him eleven months to become the undisputed super middleweight champion. However, the future Hall of Famer will not defend the IBF title, as he will get stripped of it by fight night.
