Wishnowsky Named Ray Guy Punter of the Week

AUGUSTA, Ga.—The awards continue for Utah sophomore punter Mitch Wishnowsky, who today was named the Ray Guy Punter of the Week. The Ray Guy Award honors the nation’s top punter, which for the past two years, was former Ute Tom Hackett. Hackett was also Utah’s most recent Ray Guy weekly recipient, in 2015.

In his Utah and NCAA debut, Wishnowsky broke Hackett’s single-game record for punt average against Southern Utah, averaging 55.5 yards on six punts. Wishnowsky, who yesterday was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week, leads the nation in punt average after one week of play. Utah ranks third in the nation in net punting average (46.83).

Wishnowsky had five punts of 50 yards or more against SUU—the second-most 50-yard punts in a game in school history. His long was 66 yards. His first NCAA punt sailed 51 yards and was downed on the SUU 10-yard line. He downed two punts inside the 20-yard line against the Thunderbirds.
