Rising looked great today, looked like his old self. His arm strength is back and he took every rep that he was supposed to take.

They won’t know about announcing who the starting quarterback is, until they get closer to feeling comfortable with one.

The running backs looked great. Tavion Thomas is about 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds. Whittingham would ideally like him to drop about 15. Although he was happy with his performance other than being out of shape.

TJ Pledger, Micah Bernard and Chris Curry all looked good as well and Whittingham made sure to mention that it was a really solid stable of backs. There’s no telling when a go-to guy will emerge, but he likes his options.

Thomas is just a big physical back with good speed. Fletcher is a scat bag similar to John White. Curry is a bigger back a lot like Tavion Thomas. Bernard is a terrific athlete with a great set of hands that could play wide receiver if they needed him to.

He believes that Carlton and Fillinger or are more than ready to step into the role vacated by Tupai. Miki Suguturaga will round out the two-deep at the defensive end position.

Nick Ford provides exceptional leadership to the offense.

Cole Bishop, Brandon McKinney and Kamo’i Latu are all in the mix to play alongside Vonte Davis. Whittingham mentioned Bishop is very promising.

Theo Howard had a great practice today and is really looking good. Munir McClain is going to do nice things, but he’s out of shape initially, and he could lose about 15 pounds to benefit.

92% vaccination rate with everyone in camp. 2-3 guys are waiting on their second shot. He said he expects it to hit 95%, but not likely higher.

Conference realignment is just outside noise right now, but Whittingham things and acknowledges that it will impact the Pac-12 down the road.

He acknowledges that this team has no shortage of leader ship and it has the feel of the 2019 team.

About 7-8 receivers will be in the mix this year that Whittingham feels comfortable with. He won’t acknowledge that they will throw the ball more but she did say they think they need to do a better job throwing ball this year and that’s one of their objectives.
