As a proud component of midweek MACtion, the Northern Illinois Huskies are no stranger to a weekday encounter. This Monday, they face the Fresno State Bulldogs of the Mountain West in one of the most iconic bowl games on the calendar: the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Fresno State enters the matchup 6-6 overall. On Nov. 30, UCLA defeated Fresno State 20-13. Facing UCLA, Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene went 30-for-43 with 219 passing yards and one passing touchdown.

The Northern Illinois Huskies (7-5, 4-4 MAC) take on the Fresno State Bulldogs (6-6, 4-3 Mountain West) in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl on Monday, Dec. 23. This is your prototypical messy bowl game with both starting quarterbacks in the portal. Fresno State will be without Mikey Keene, while Northern Illinois will have to make do without Ethan Hampton

Between injuries, transfer portal entrants, and NFL Draft declarations, there will be several Northern Illinois and Fresno State players not playing in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Fresno State has obviously been hit harder by the sheer number of impact players who won't be out on the field in Boise on Monday afternoon. The wide receiver room was hit particularly hard, as two of the three projected starters have four combined catches on the season.
