Spring practices are here, and as always, Utah’s defense is the backbone of the team. But this year, there are more questions than usual. Depth concerns on the defensive line, high-upside but unproven talent at linebacker, and a secondary that still needs to shake out its outside corner spots—this spring will be all about development.
  • Defensive Line: Where’s the beef? With Tafuna off to the NFL and another key departure, Utah has only five scholarship DTs this spring—two of them true freshmen. Vakalahi and Lea’ea will get a ton of reps, but the big question is whether Utah can find depth before the season starts. Transfer portal, anyone?
  • Linebackers: A star-studded group on paper—Barton, Damuni, Hall, and some intriguing freshmen. But will they finally live up to the hype?
  • Secondary: Snowden is a lock to play somewhere, but outside corner is a battle. Scooby Davis returns, but transfers Saunders, Caldwell, and Cotton are coming for his spot.
With Morgan Scalley leading the charge, history tells us Utah’s defense will figure it out. But is this the year we see some growing pains? Trust The Process [tm] or start worrying?

What do you all think how confident are you in the defense heading into 2025?
