I’m normally not the “get there in time” guy but I had an observation on Saturday that’s a disturbing trend. Each game this year the attendance has been less than the “sell out”, no matter what is said about sales. The Muss apparently started giving tickets away last week to get butts in seats. The east side of the stadium hasn’t been full any of the games thus far. The south east corner of the stadium hasn’t been full either for any games. I sit in the north west corner, so it’s YM hard to see the west side. The first several games had potential explanations with heat and rain, but Saturday vs Cal was amazing football weather. But it was still missing a bunch of people.
What is going on with football attendance? In addition, the “game day vibe” has been different...less excited. Granted Utah was blowing out Cal but there were a couple times during the game where the D-lineman were begging the fans to get loud.
I don’t want to call out the east side of the stadium but they never really stood up or appeared to get loud. There were empty seats everywhere. It was sad.
I have been to most PAC-12 stadiums and I’d rank RES right up with a Oregon and Washington in terms of fan attention and excitement. That said, this season has resembled more of a UCLA atmosphere of an “meh” attitude.
Ok, my rant is over but I wanted to see if others noticed similar or if I’m off base. I heard on the radio that nationwide football attendance is down again this year, so I wonder if Harlan is worried about a stadium that isn’t full (even if a sell out) right before it is expanded another 5,000 seats.
