First Full Week on Tap

The first full week of Utah’s preseason camp will begin with the final three days of the required NCAA acclimatization period. The Utes will practice from Monday through Saturday before taking Sunday off. The first scrimmage of the preseason is slated for Saturday, Aug. 5. Fall camp is closed to the public. The media may observe the final 20 minutes of practice on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. See sidebar for additional media information.

Inside the Huddle

Oregon transfer Darren Carrington II, who caught the game-winning touchdown for the Ducks against Utah last year, has joined the Utes as a graduate transfer … Strong safety Chase Hansen is unavailable to practice until further notice … While Troy Williams and Tyler Huntley are getting more reps at quarterback than Cooper Bateman, all three are still in the running for the top two positions. No timetable has been set on naming a starter … Weekly depth charts will not be issued during preseason camp.

Two-Minute Drill

With camp starting a week early this year and summer school still in session, meetings have been pushed back until 1:30 each day. Beginning next week, the Utes will shift to a traditional preseason camp structure … A rotating weight lifting schedule has players lifting twice a week in one of three groups (skill, big skill, giant skill). The skill players include wide receivers, defensive backs and quarterbacks; the big skill group has the running backs, tight ends, linebackers and specialists; and giant skill is the offensive and defensive lines … Everyone will see playing time in the first scrimmage of camp this Saturday.
