Mariott University

Honestly, there aren't any good bars near there as that hotel is up on campus in what is known as Research Park. Most of the bars are downtown. There is a TRAX (light rail) station on campus that can take you downtown in just a few minutes. A cab would also be very reasonable. A few of the decent bars downtown include Circle lounge, Keys on Main (piano bar and right next to a TRAX station), The Green Pig, The Bayou (jazz bar, good food and a massive beer selection), The Tavernacle (piano bar), Green Street (just of downtown in Trolley Square), Lumpy's (Ute sports bar) and The Beerhive. Check out slcbars.com. It seems to have a decent, updated list.

As far as restaurants go, the Market Street Broiler is just west of campus on 1300 E. It is excellent, but can be pricey. There are a ton of restaurants downtown. Use Yelp or Tripadvisor to narrow it down. A few that I like include Stoneground (pizza/pasta/salads, located on 400 S, next to TRAX stations), The Bayou (see above), Sawadee (Thai food, on South Temple and around 750 E), Settebello (authentic Italian pizza), Trio (9th & 9th area), and Mazza (also at 9th & 9th). If you like brewpubs, Squatters and Red Rock are both downtown. Desert Edge is at Trolley Square near Green Street. They have all have good food and make great beer. If you have a rental car, go up Emigration Canyon and eat breakfast at Ruth's Diner (amazing, but super busy on weekends, get there early). Please stay away from chains. While SLC isn't quite a food mecca, there are still many excellent local restaurants serving most any type of menu you prefer. Hope this helps. Go Utes!
