A Rod and Jim Harding are Co-OCs. A Rod is in box calling plays on game day. Good situation there.
Still have TE spot open. Will fill it within the next week to two weeks max.
Brought in John Pease to be DC, Justin Ena to be LB coach. Defensive staff is set.
Another solid class. Felt like took care of immediate needs. OL was at the top of the list. Closely followed by WR and DB. Were able to get good players at other positions as well. Feel good about the guys we've got.
On Social Media:
It's different what it used to me. My opinion doesn't matter because whatever happens is going to happen. It's here to stay. There's no doubt about that.
On Coming Off a 9 Win Season:
We felt a positive impact, particularly in Calif. 15 of our 25 initials this year are from Cali. A lot of that is because of how well we did with record as well as beating Cali schools.
On Immediate Impact:
Never single any one guy out. The JUCO guys are typically more ready. Not always the case. Half of this class should make an impact this coming season.
On OL Class:
Mostly offensive tackle types. Longer levered guys that can play on the edge. We feel like we helped ourselves. Our numbers were down. Helped class in sheer numbers standpoiint.
On In-State Recruiting:
Number one objective every year is able to keep best players in the state. Not a state in the country that doesn't go through the same thing where outsiders pick off players. Try to put a fence around the state as best you can, but you're never going to get every one. We lost a few
On USC and UCLA's Class:
They've done a nice job. Ranking systems are relative and don't always predict. They do a good job and work hard at it, but projecting and developing talent when you get them on campus will make and break you, particularly when you don't get a lot of 4 or 5 stars.
On Returned Missionaries:
They're essentially free agents. It wastes the NLI because the document expires when they're out. Sometimes they have a change of heart. We've lost very few over the years. I can count on one hand how many we've lost since I've been at Utah.
On DC Hiring Process:
It's tough to recruit and hire staff at same time, but it's the nature of college football. Interviewed prospective coaches. Scalley was a candidate for that spot. Talked to Coach Pease and I felt it was the best thing for us at this time.
On In-State Recruits:
Us being in Pac-12 makes other coaches aware. Plus the amount of talent is really good. This may have been the best one ever.
On Position Coaches:
Look for excellent coaches and recruiters if you can. Some position groups are more demanding to coach than others. One common denominator is that college football is all about recruiting and that is right at the top. The ideal is to have a guy that excels at both.
On Making Co-Coordinators Work:
Made sure we didn't change schemes. Was important to keep same schemes. Players really love playing for Jim and Aaron. Want to continue on and not miss a beat. We weren't going to bring a guy from the outside to change things up.
On Kendal Thompson's Return:
Won't be in spring ball. Hope he's cleared for summer conditioning.
On Coach Harding as Recruiter:
He was outstanding. Him and A Rod were both excellent. The two accounted for almost half of the class.
On Cory Butler:
Speed. Talented. Could play both CB and WR. You have to be able to run to play CB with us. Starting point will be on defense. Love his sheer speed and athleticism.
On Recruiting Against Former Employees:
I have a lot of respect for those guys. They put together a good class given circumstances. There wasn't anything that surprised us with that situation there. Guys that ended up there didn't surprise us at all.

Had eight guys that took inititals that were already with us either as walkons, grayshirts or push forwards. Patrick, Fanaika, Fields, Gonzalez are among them.
On Recruiting Coordinator Title:
May give title to someone other than Morgan. Depends on TE hire.
