Short presser today, only about 10 minutes. Whitt had to go to his daughter's wedding.
Outstanding scrimmage, a lot of situational work. All three QBs played well. Jordan Wilmore, Ty Jordan, Devin Brumfield and Micah Bernard all stood out from the RBs. Receivers were solid. Offense overall had a good day. Defense has to get better, offense won the day overall.
Another scrimmage next Saturday, then two weeks countdown, opener on the 7th.
Players did a nice job electing captains. Don't read anything into Jake Bentley being a captain meaning he's won the job. The fact that Bentley was elected a captain says a lot about his character, how he conducts himself, his rapport with his teammates. It's a rarity for a guy to only having been with the team a short time and to become such a leader. Doesn't factor in to their decision on who will be the starter. Orlando Umana was a captain in the offseason as well. Devin Lloyd and Mika Tafua are outstanding leaders and outstanding players.
They know the running backs that will be traveling with them, and they're those four mentioned earlier (Brumfield, Wilmore, Bernard, Jordan). TJ Green didn't quite have the production of the other guys. Tyrone Smith is lost for the season. WR crew is getting a little thin. Solomon Enis, Bryan Thompson, and Britain Covey are doing nice things. Samson Nacua is having an outstanding camp, Devaughn Vele as well. Money Parks got a shoutout too. Tight ends are looking good.
Corners are playing solid. JT Broughton had the best day, Malone Mataele played well, and Clark Phillips showed up, too. Bronson Boyd did a nice job. The corner pool is starting to develop a hierarchy. They need six corners ideally. Nate Ritchie and Vonte Davis did some good things today at safety. Kamoi Latu is also starting to show up.
Format of the scrimmage was a bunch of drives that started at the opposing 30 or 40, did a lot of high and low red zone works, did a lot of driving the football between the 20s. Hit every phase of special teams.
