NEW COMMIT: Nate Johnson, ATH, HE’S BACK

Nate is back like has been anticipated and he will be back most likely as a wide receiver. I’ve also heard that there is a chance that he would be the emergency quarterback, as in QB3. We’ll see how that unfolds though, as I actually think he could do well at quarterback in this offense. For now though, it’s as a wide receiver.

Keanu to BYU thoughts

Well, that was a blow. There’s different ways that you can spin it, but Utah is absolutely losing a guy that is a very technically sound defender in the trenches and a big-time team leader, regardless of if you want to call him out for how he handled going into the portal.

How it all broke down:

At one point on Friday I spoke with two different BYU ties that said BYU had lost confidence in getting Tanuvasa. It seemed like it switched to USC and Michigan. Keep in mind, signing stuff isn’t the same as it used to be. Because of this in my conversations, I learned that Friday morning the BYU staff thought that they had him, and then again it seemed like everything had changed. The Fano brothers are roommates with Keanu and they grew extremely positive to the point where talking to people around the program said that they felt like they had him back in their grasp. From there, I know that Blechen reengaged with Keanu to see what they could figure out NIL wise, but it just wasn’t enough.

A lot has been made about Keanu’s faith comments that he has put out there and whether you agree or disagree, he has the right to express himself the way that he chooses. I do know that this was not just about money that there are some underlying things to it as well. Those are things that unfortunately I can’t get into right now because I don’t want to burn my sources on these or do any damage in general.

I’ll have more soon on how Utah’s DTs stack up for 2025.

Merry Christmas

In these crazy times we are in, it’s good to still have a place I can come to every day and laugh, scream, yell, cry (you get my point) with you guys. You guys are amazing! I am lucky to have been on these boards as long as I have and to know you guys! You guys are what makes this board special.

I also wanted to express my appreciation and gratitude to Alex and his partners n crime and for all that that they do on a daily basis to keep this place going for us. You guys are rock stars!

We will be alright guys!

Hope everyone has an amazing, safe and Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays!

Remember when it was fun following recruiting.

Nothing new, but used to have some anticipation now is kids going for more money and nothing to even make them stay 2 years by signing an NIL deal. They need penalties lime pros if they want to be treated like them l, make them and have contractual obligations and pay agents their percentage. Very o treated to see how
Many have tax problems years down the road

College vs. Pro sports

One of the biggest differences between college and pro sports right now (other than the size of the average contract) is that in the pros, there are rules about who has a say regarding where a player can play. In the pros, a player is under contract for however many years and they, for the most part, don't have a lot of say about anything during that time period. The team has control and can trade the player or keep the player until the end of the contract. Some players have no-trade clauses that restrict trades to certain teams but for the most part, the team controls the player during the length of the contract.

Many players have contracts where they become a restricted free agent in the last year of their contract where both the player and the team have certain rights. In college sports, it's like the wild west with the player have about all of the rights. There is no contractual obligation by the player at all. They can effectively become a free agent every year. There needs to be restrictions that protect the school as well as the player. There should be contracts ranging from 1 year to 5 years (including a red-shirt year). If we go down this route, perhaps we ought to consider the ability to trade players as well. If one school has a plethora of QBs, or RBs, or whatever and finds itself thin at WR or DE, LB or any other position, perhaps they can find a school to trade a player to in order to get a player at a position of need. Academically this may not be fair to the player because the new school may either not offer their majore or it may not be as good. In that case, you build that into the contract where the players signs for a lesser amount in order to have a no trade clause so that they can make sure they can stay at the school to get the education they actually want. This doesn't seem to be too big of a deal at this point considering players are going wherever they can get the most moola!!

And just like that Utah loses Hunter Clegg.

3 big losses in 2 days. Utah also lost 20 guys to the portal. Yes addition by subtraction but 7 of those are guys Utah needed. Yes I am irritated and can be fairly judged as being negative on this particular go around.

There goes a promising 4 ⭐ DE (Clegg) that committed to Utah and flips to BYU post mission. Maybe it's different if Utah didn't suck for two years. Thank you PAC 12 for committing conference suicide and not killing the BIG 12 when it had the chance a couple of years ago. That also opened the door for BYU to get into the BIG 12 and have Ryan Smith secretly funneling big money to BYU through other persons. I love hockey but I will stay an Avalanche fan. I won't give a penny to the Jazz or UHC. I am a Ute fan only. It's all I got left.
