Bivol vs Beterbiev LIVE Today: Latest fight updates and results

Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev will finally share a ring tonight, as they meet in an undisputed title fight in Saudi Arabia.

The unbeaten light-heavyweights have orbited one another for some time, and they were due to clash in Riyadh in June, but Beterbiev sustained a knee injury that delayed the bout.

It has now arrived, however, with Beterbiev carrying the WBC, WBO and IBF belts into the Kingdom Arena, while 33-year-old Bivol reigns as WBA Super champion. Both boxers are pound-for-pound stars in the sport, with Beterbiev at No 6 in the Indy Sport rankings and Bivol at No 5.

Beterbiev, even at 39, is one of the most devastating punchers in all of boxing, having compiled a 20-0 record with 20 knockouts. Bivol, meanwhile, has gone 23-0 with 12 KOs as a slick mover, a fluid technician, and a volume puncher.

The contrast in styles should make for an intriguing match-up, and the fight caps off an impressive card: Chris Eubank Jr is in action before the main event, while heavyweights Fabio Wardley and Frazer Clarke meet in a rematch of one of the fights of the year: their bloody bout for the British title, which ended as a draw in March.

Bivol vs Beterbiev LIVE: Fabio Wardley vs Frazer Clarke 2

The ring walks are almost upon us. Will this fight live up to its predecessor? We’ll find out in a matter of minutes...
Clarke is striding to the ring. He looks very confident! But so does Wardley, who has just joined him in Kingdom Arena.
Wardley is 17-0-1 (16 KOs) as a pro, while Olympic bronze medalist Clarke is 8-0-1 (6 KOs).
Round one
Both men stand orthodox. Each flicks out a few jabs, then the heavyweights briefly grapple.
Decent body shot by Wardley, then a retort upstairs by Clarke. The latter follows up with a double-jab and a right cross. Wardley jabs to the body then lands a grazing cross up top.
OH! Wardley rocks Clarke with a right overhand, then pours on a flurry of fast shots!
A left hook and right hook, then another right hook, and Clarke sinks into the ropes!

Bivol vs Beterbiev LIVE: Jai Opetaia vs Jack Massey

Round six
Massey is so tough. Whenever you think he may be nearing the end, he comes back with a combination.
But all he can do right now is shove Opetaia away from him, between combinations from the champion.
Opetaia is varying his offence nicely, and his stamina has been so impressive.
OH! And Massey’s corner throws in the towel! Massey takes a moment to realise, then briefly protests, but it’s probably the right call...

Bivol vs Beterbiev LIVE: Chris Eubank Jr vs Kamil Szeremeta

Chris Eubank Jr def. Kamil Szeremeta via seventh-round TKO (1:50).
With that, Eubank Jr picks up the IBO middleweight title.
“Speaking of easy work, look who we’ve got here, baby,” Eubank Jr says, as he faces off with Benn again. “This is the fight everyone wants to see, huh?”
Benn: “After that performance, you think I’m worried?”
Neymar enters the ring, and even though he’s primarily Portuguese-speaking, Benn insults Eubank Jr in Spanish and asks the footballer to translate.

Beterbiev vs. Bivol takes place Saturday Night Boxing Today

Loads of talent.

Beterbiev has power – thus, the 20-0 record with 20 knockouts.

Bivol has footwork and finesse – thus the 23-0 record. While he has just 12 KOs, he does boast an upset victory over Canelo Alvarez in 2022.

Both rank as high as No. 4 and no lower than No. 7 in pound-for-pound rankings generated by The Ring, ESPN, The Sporting News and CBS Sports.

Fabio Wardley vs. Frazer Clarke, heavyweight,

Scheduled for 12 rounds

Round 1: The heavyweights come out throwing jabs. Clarke following up with rights now. They get tangled and Clarke uses the opportunity to deliver a few punches. Wardley connects with a flurry and down goes Clarke! It’s over. Clarke’s jaw looks askew. That may be a broken jaw, the result of a hard right.

Clarke in the corner getting oxygen.

Jai Opetaia def. Jack Massey by TKO

Opetaia threw a boatload of punches, and Massey’s corner threw in the towel -- in the sixth round of their cruiserweight fight.

At one point, Massey was bleeding from the nose, near the eye and spit out blood and the referee promptly accepted Massey’s corner asking to end the fight.

Jai Opetaia vs. Jack Massey, cruiserweight

Scheduled for 12 rounds

Round 1: Opetaia stalking and Massey counterpunching. Opetaia works Massey into a corner and scores. Massey circling, but not fast enough to avoid Opetaia’s punches. Massey lands a couple of punches, but Opetaia has dominated the round. Opetaia 10, Massey 9.

Round 2: Massey comes out aggressively. Opetaia counters and lands a stiff right hook. Opetaia still leading with the left, effectively. Massey fighting back. Opetaia strikes to the body, has Massey backed into a corner again. Opetaia 20, Massey 18.

Round 3: Massey catches Opetaia early, but Opetaia ramps up the attack. Massey counters with a right and then eats three punches. Opetaia works Massey into a corner and scores late in the round. Opetaia 30, Massey 27.

Chris Eubank Jr. vs. Kamil Szeremeta, middleweight

Scheduled for 12 rounds

Round 1: Eubank out quick with the left jab. Spices it up with a left hook and then a right floors Szeremeta! He’s down. Szeremeta back on his feet and ties up Eubank. They’re untangled and Eubank goes back to work with both hands. Back comes Szeremeta! Lands a shot that sends Eubank reeling, but Eubank steadies himself as the round ends. Eubank 10, Szeremeka 8.

Round 2: Szeremeta was down, but he’s not out. Active early in the round. But he struggles to keep pace with Eubank, who lands a solid uppercut. Eubank hammering away, but Szeremeta fighting back. Eubank 20, Szeremeta 17.

Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol Riyadh Season Opening Ceremony Today

One of the biggest fights of the year takes place on Saturday when WBC, IBF and WBO light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev meets WBA champion Dmitry Bivol in a long-awaited clash to crown an undisputed champion. The fight takes place at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Bivol vs. Beterbiev

  • Date: Oct. 12
  • Location: Kingdom Arena -- Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
  • Start time: 6 p.m. ET (main event

For years, Bivol and Beterbiev have dominated the 175-pound division, with a bout between the two seemingly inevitable, though failing to come together until the two sides finally reached an agreement to meet on June 1. That fight ended up getting delayed to Saturday after Beterbiev suffered a training camp injury.

Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KO) is the only current champion in boxing with a 100% stoppage rate. That power suggests Beterbiev is a pure brawler, and his mauling style backs up that assumption. Beterbiev is, however, a talented technician who was a successful amateur who won European and world championships before turning professional.

In 2017, Beterbiev stopped Enrico Kolling to win the IBF title, his first world championship as a professional. Interestingly, Beterbiev stopped Kolling with just 27 seconds remaining in the 12th and final round, the closest he's come to reaching the judges' scorecards.

Beterbiev stopped Oleksandr Gvozdyk in a much-anticipated 2019 unification bout to add the WBC title to his collection. Three fights later, Beterbiev thumped Joe Smith Jr. in the second round to capture the WBO title. He has gone on to defend his three world titles against Anthony Yarde and Callum Smith.

"I don't know about it but if [Alalshikh] helped for this fight to happen, I think we know that man. He helped us for this fight. But we never know if it wouldn't have happened [without him]," Beterbiev said. "Every good boxer wants to have an opportunity like this. I'm really happy. I've been working toward this goal everyday."

Like Beterbiev, Bivol (23-0, 12 KO) transitioned from a successful amateur career to the professional ranks. His path to becoming the WBA "super" champion was a fairly confusing one.

Bivol defeated Felix Valera in 2016 to win the WBA interim title. He would fight four times, twice defending the interim title, before being elevated to "regular" champion in late 2017 after a chain of events that saw Andre Ward retiring as "super" champion and Badou Jack vacating the "regular" title.

Bivol would defend the "regular" version of the title five times before finally being elevated to the true world championship "super" champion status in 2019.

While already recognized as one of the best boxers in the world, Bivol finally got exposure in the larger boxing world when he was selected by generational superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez as an opponent in Alvarez's attempt to move up to light heavyweight and become a 175-pound champion for the second time in his career.

Bivol vs. Beterbiev fight card, odds

IV Crown Showdown Beterbiev vs Bivol Fight from Anywhere

Beterbiev (20-0, 20 KOs) is the reigning IBF, WBC and WBO titleholder. The 39-year-old power puncher has defeated some of the best fighters in the division including Tavoris Cloud, Oleksandr Gvozdyk, Marcus Browne, Joe Smith Jr., Anthony Yarde and Callum Smith.

"[Bivol] is a good boxer," Beterbiev told Dev Sahni on the Queensberry Boxing Show. "If he wasn't a good boxer, he wouldn't hold the title. He has many things good… we'll see. I try to be ready for my opponents."

The 33-year-old Bivol (23-0, 12 KOs) is the long-reigning WBA titleholder. After winning the regular version in 2017, he would soon be upgraded to full champion and has notched up 12 victories in title fights. His Rosetta Stone moment was a May 2022 triumph over then-pound-for-pound No. 1 Canelo Alvarez.

"[For this fight], all my skills should be at the highest level. Not only speed. Not only movement. Everything. My jab. My right hand. My strength. To be aware of danger," stated Bivol in a recent interview with BoxingScene and ProBox TV. "Everything needs to be at the highest level."

The Sporting News will provide live updates, undercard results, and round-by-round scoring for this spectacular main event in Riyadh.

The two unbeaten Russian rivals will put all the belts on the line in Riyadh in what marks the first undisputed title fight in the division since 2002.

The two pound-for-pound stars were due to fight earlier in the year, but the bout was delayed after Beterbiev injured his knee in training.

Beterbiev has a perfect record, with 20 knockouts in his previous 20 fights, while Bivol is also undefeated and has won all of his 23 fights, including against Mexican great Canelo Alvarez in 2022.

However, fans’ eyes may be drawn to something else in the main event on Saturday evening, with the referee sporting a pink shirt for the unification bout – here is why.

Hot pile of steaming/stinky garbage!!

We are nowhere near the team they were selling in spring, summer and fall camp. They talked about a dynamic offense and someone (probably several someones) said or mused that we might actually pass more than we run.

BYE WEEK: According to Whitt, they were going to work on our red zone offense and get (more) creative so that we can get touchdowns. What did they actually do during the bye week? We got 4 field goals and a touchdown and we looked pathetic. AZ comes off a bye week and beats us, we come off a bye week and lay an egg!!

RISING: I was super excited to see him in but when he hurt his ankle it was obvious he couldn't get any velocity on the ball because his plant foot was hurt. He also had to start wearing the glove during the game which make me wonder if something happened to his hand. As much as I love Cam, for his own safety, I think they should have put Wilson in because he could run and he could have made a number of those throws because he's healthy.

FIRE LUDWIG: He completely lacks creativity. How many times did we have 2nd and long and we ran the ball? Our trick play was Kuithe running it up the middle on a direct snap??? What? We can't be more creative than that? D-coordinators can read ludwig like a book. I'd love to be as bad as him at my job and make $1.8mil!!

How are we this far away from what was projected? We were picked to win the conference and we beat SUU 49-0. We should have put 70 on them. We beat Baylor 23-12 and one of our touchdowns was a special teams touchdown. Utah State, who has looked very bad against BSU and UNLV, were up on us for a while and hung with us until the 2nd half when we finally broke the game open. OK State has looked horrible since their loss to us and while we dominated for most of the game, we almost gave it away in the last five+ minutes. Our red zone production was bad in the Baylor game and again in the OK State game and was average vs. USU. We have now lost two in a row, with this game coming off our bye week where they showed ZERO improvement.

WHAT IS LEFT TO ROOT FOR? Ludwig needs to go. We need an OC who can have full control of the offense AND actually have some creativity so that the opposing team doesn't know what we are doing all the time (BSU's coordinator seems like a good choice - at this point, ASU's looks much better than Ludwig). While we want Cam to play, he needs to be healthy. Unfortunately, it looks like he got an ankle injury early in the game that kept him from throwing the ball the way he is capable. At that point, put Wilson in. He can run and he has the arm and healthy body to be able to get the velocity on the ball whereas Cam was underthrowing his guys a lot. So frustrating. Technically we still have some sort of chance at the Big XII championship but the odds are so low that there really isn't much to root for. Sorry for being a downer but my team has let me down with horrible performances the last two games and sub-par performances the games before that that we happened to win.

After beating Jack Perry at September's AEW All Out, Danielson was confronted by Christian Cage and The Patriarchy. Cage teased he would be cashing in his contract for a shot at the AEW title. But Moxley, Castagnoli, and PAC made the save. All things appeared to be good when all of a sudden the trio violently attacked Danielson. Moxley viciously choked him with a bag until he was unconscious.

"The American Dragon got his revenge at AEW Grand Slam. Moxley just defeated Allin to earn a crack at Danielson for the gold at WrestleDream when Danielson came up from behind and also choked him with a bag.

Now, the former best friends turned bitter enemies look to find out who is the best.

Also at WrestleDream, Will Ospreay puts the International Championship on the line in a three-way against Ricochet and Konosuke Takeshita and former AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland will make his first appearance since losing to "Hangman" Adam Page at AEW All Out.

Horrible 3rd & Short Playcalling

The 3rd and Short (4 yards or less) playcalling has me fired up! It's unbelievably predictable. Stick with me on this... lots of numbers but it shows the lack of creativity by Ludwig:

Utah has had 29 plays of 3rd & 4 or less:

Rushes: 24/29 (83%)
RB Rushes: 24/24 (100%)
QB/WR/TE Rushes: 0/24 (0%)

Rush Middle: 18/24 (75%)
Rush Left: 3/24 (13%)
Rush Right: 3/24 (13%)

Rush middle 1st down: 7/18 (39%)
Rush left 1st down: 3/3 (100%)
Rush right 1st down: 2/3 (67%)

Bernard: 9 rushes, 5 1st downs
Mitchell: 11 rushes, 5 1st downs
Vincent/Stanley/Andrews: 4 rushes, 2 1st downs

1st three games rush middle 1st downs: 5/9 (56%)
Last two games rush middle 1st down: 2/9 (22%)

Mitchell: 9 straight runs up the middle. First 3 got 1st downs, last 6 failed.
Bernard: 5 of last 6 runs up the middle. 3/5 got 1st downs.
Last 3 games: 14/15 runs up the middle!!!!

Average yards gained on plays of 3rd & 4 or less:
Rush up the middle: 2.5 yards
Rush left: 3.3 yards
Rush right: 14.7 yards
Pass: 11.6 yards

Mitchell: 2.1 yards per carry
Bernard: 6 yards per carry
It's so predictable!!

If Mitchell is in, 100% rush middle or left, with 78% middle.
If Bernard is in, 89% rush middle or right, with 67% middle.

17% chance of pass
0% chance of screen pass
0% chance of QB/TE/WR run
0% chance of draw play

It's just too easy for opposing defensive coordinators.
They know EXACTLY what's coming.
They stack the box just a little to the right with Mitchell, and just a little to the left with Bernard, and go straight for the RB.
They don't even have to look at the QB/TE/WRs.

Where have the TE rushes gone? You can't tell me Kuithe, Ryan, or Suguturaga wouldn't get you a first down on 3rd and short.
Where have the WR rushes gone? Hand the ball off to the WR!! If they go in motion but you NEVER give them the ball, the motion is useless.
Where have the QB rushes gone? Again, the QB has to run it occasionally to keep the defense guessing. If Wilson can't do it, put in someone who can on 3rd and short! The shotgun QB draw worked great for Rising 2 years ago. Johnson and Barnes did great with it last season. Where is it this season?
Run Wildcat? Why not try running the wildcat? Kuithe has had success with this in the past.
More passing!? Only 5/29 3rd and short situations resulted in a pass. 3 got a first down. 2 were incomplete. It keeps defenses off balance, you can't just run it up the middle over and over! Some screens perhaps?
Run it left or right, just not the middle! 5/6 runs NOT up the middle have gone for a first down. So if you must continue to run it, why would you keep choosing middle??? At least run a sweep, a toss, a counter, ANYTHING other than power middle.

Winless Peru welcome an impressive Uruguay side to Lima in CONMEBOL World Cup qualifying on Friday night. The hosts are rooted to the bottom of the standings as we approach the midway point, while Uruguay will feel confident of reaching a fifth straight World Cup, having already beaten both Argentina and Brazil.

Uruguay will resume their World Cup qualifying campaign against Peru on Saturday. La Celeste are currently third on the qualifying table after accumulating 15 points in their opening eight matches. They have registered four wins, three draws, and one loss so far.

Managed by Marcelo Bielsa, they are one of the best national teams in the world right now. Their direct-attacking play style of football during the 2024 Copa America impressed everybody. However, La Celeste played two back-to-back 0-0 draws against Paraguay and Venezuela last month.

As is so often the case, Marcelo Bielsa is having a huge impact in his current venture, and thankfully for Uruguay, it has been a positive one so far.

Despite losing to 10-man Colombia in the Copa America semi-finals, Bielsa is set to lead La Celeste to yet another World Cup, with the dreaded memories of missing out in 2006 are now long in the past.

However, as is also often the case with Bielsa, controversy follows, and the bombshell quotes from Luis Suarez over the past week have stirred up off-field drama.

The Uruguay legend claimed that there is a toxic atmosphere around Bielsa, and he has caused rifts and divisions within the squad, and while business goes on as usual, that is certainly something to keep an eye on in the coming months.

There was great drama surrounding the aforementioned loss to Colombia, as the brawl which ensued following the final whistle meant Bielsa was without most of his key players for the two qualifiers last month.

Nevertheless, Uruguay came away with two 0-0 draws against Paraguay and Venezuela, and even though they dropped to third behind Colombia, they are still the continent's top scorers with 13, and they have now gone over eight hours without conceding in qualifying - since their clash with Colombia on matchday three.

While Peru are currently in dire straits though, Uruguay will know this is not an easy place to visit, as they have won on just one of their last five competitive visits.asdsadsadsad

Game Day Plans...

All right, y'all - It's game day. What are your plans? Watching from home? Down at the game in Phoenix? Going to a friends or up to the U?

I've got a brisket from Mosida Meat Market in Lehi (best meat on the planet) on the smoker (we'll have slices and burnt ends) and I'll be making banana pudding this afternoon. My wife made some cucumber salad an we'll have some baked beans. My friends are bringing some homemade mac and cheese and some chips and salsa. The food will be fantastic and hopefully the game will be even better!!

McMurphy announces that Rising will start against Arizona State

This lines up with everything I was hearing before the Arizona game. Therefore, the rumors the last two weeks have sounded insane to me. At the same time, the rumors got so out of hand that regardless of my good sources on this matter, that I just chose to sit back and not get scolded by people for saying the positive news I was hearing.

But, let the positivity flow. Breathe easy now everybody:
