OFFICIAL VISITOR UPDATE: Zechariah Sample, WR, Jordan HS (Katy, TX)

Sample committed to Arizona State in March, but following a great experience visiting Utah last weekend, he's very interested in the possibility of being a Ute.

"If I get the chance to be a Ute, I will definitely bring energy to the team and be a big leader."

He's not the biggest receiver, listed at 5'10 and 165 lbs., but he makes up for it with a lot of speed and energy.

Right now his recruitment is down to just ASU and Utah.

Full article on his visit coming soon.

Some basketball recruiting musings…

A few things I’ve heard…

-Dunn was pretty locked in to playing on the east coast and also playing with his former NC teammate. The RayJ stuff had no impact on his reasoning… And I’ve also told everyone about the NIL too.

-Had Baylor’s Adam Flagler not stayed in the draft, RayJ would have been a Ute. Painful to hear, I know, but they came close to a HR.

-Calmese will be visiting Washington soon. He’s still in play, but he’s looking for basically a “starting” promise. Neither Oregon or Utah would give him that promise—and rightfully so. Utah told him he has a good situation, but also needs to compete. We’ll see what happens. I know he loved his Utah visit.

-They like the 12 guys they have a lot. They shot for the stars with RayJ on the 13th scholarship and it don’t workout in the end. If the last scholarship doesn’t go to Calmese, it’s likely going to be a developmental HS or foreign player.

OFFICIAL VISITOR UPDATE: Faletau Satuala, S, Bountiful HS

Satuala said he had a great official visit with the Utes over the weekend. He really enjoyed getting to know several current players and coaches, and got to spend a fair amount of time with Morgan Scalley.

Utah was his first official. He said he plans to take an official visit to BYU later this month. Right now, Utah is in his top 3 schools along with BYU and UCLA.

Watch for an article coming soon.

OFFICIAL VISITOR UPDATE: Decker DeGraaf, TE, Glendora HS

DeGraaf spent a lot of time with Fred Whittingham, had some time with coach Whittingham and Andy Ludwig. He said Ludwig mostly spoke about football with him and that he loved it because he has a brilliant football mind. He said the team was super inviting and was a true brotherhood.

Utah, Arkansas, Washington, Michigan State are his top schools and he hopes to have his decision made by July.

Article to come.

Utah softball WCWS @ 11 MST today

With the rainout, the game will be at 11 MST today. Halie and I were going to cover it, but it’s a little more difficult now. I’d love for everyone to interact with the WCWS because it’s a pretty special thing.

By the way, Harlan is speaking his mind and good for him:

Colorado & Arizona... A different angle

Why not let them go? Why not hope for it even....

Exactly what does both Arizona and Colorado bring to the P10 anyway? Certainly NOTHING in football. Arizona hasn't been relevant since Dick Tomey was there. Colorado has been a complete dud in the P12. What do we really lose in their departure that could not EASILY be made up eslewhere?

Colorado State brings the Denver market and is arguably MUCH better at football than the Buffs. San Diego State is SIGNIFICANTLY better all the way around than Arizona right now. So... Say adios to both, bring in CSU, SDSU and Gonzaga in basketball only and you have a much better conference than you had BASKETBALL wise when UCLA and USC were in the conference AND you have a quality football league too.

Hand ringing over nothing right now. As I have said many times, it is a complete ILLUSION that moving conferences TODAY will bring you stability because the B12 is as stable as the P12 going into 2028-ish NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS TODAY or TOMORROW or NEXT WEEK or NEXT MONTH.

5/24 RayJ Dennis thoughts

With a decision imminent, there’s been a lot of back and forth because Dennis is doing what he can to leverage NIL. That being said, there’s a ton of confidence that it’ll be Utah.

Can it change? When someone is doing what they can to get the most NIL, anything can change. From the sounds of it, according to Illinois contacts, it doesn’t sound like Dennis is a big fan of their HC. This is definitely most likely between Utah and Baylor.
