This is a bit of a surprise. First it sounded like Washington, then it looked like Kentucky, but Pitino reels him in at St. John’s.

We’ll see how it all turns out.

I’m going to be doing an assistant coach hotlist, but one name to watch closely this next little bit is Barrett Peery. He proactively was trying to get the BYU head coaching job and it seems like he wants to get back to the state. He’s currently coaching at UNLV and he’s LDS. Really good recruiter and a great coach. If this happens, Smith will have some flexibility on the second assistant coach position that he’s needing to fill. Peery coached briefly at Utah under Jim Boylen.

Finally some good news.

It's a football commit?

Any chance Craig Smith puts in a call to him to see if he’s interested in one of the vacant assistant positions?

Does Utah have a “whale” willing to donate?

Can Utah fans contribute enough every year to the collective to make Utah basketball competitive going forward on top of season tickets and crimson club donations are we willing to put up or shut up?

Do Harlan and Smith suck so bad no “Whales” are stepping up to donate? Not gonna throw good money after bad.

What is the answer?

Or just accept our fate as a lower tier Bball program cause Utah is a big time Football school now and we can’t afford both?

I don’t really know the best words to say about the Utah basketball program right now with Smith needing to fill two openings.

Although it brings me back to a conversation I had with an assistant one time that said, when you find a good coach and a good situation, you don’t jump around, you stick with them. That person eventually bailed after an interest situation.

With Slocum there was differing views. With Burgess, I’m sure money played a factor. Therefore, the truth to what I was once told lies somewhere in between.

At the present moment, it’s tough to find much positive to say about Utah basketball.

The most recent news I’ve had passed along to me is that Burgess is staying at Utah. This is from the same person that has been completely accurate throughout the BYU search.

I don’t believe it. Why keep so many non many money makers. Selfishly I want it to be 48-56 where Utah is in and byu is out. I have issues and I own them.

I know we hash this and hash this, but USU getting that transfer scorer from Central Arkansas and crickets here with no new scoring prowess, pretty much keeps fans excitement in the doldrums. There is absolutely ZERO excitement around this program, that s what s gonna get smith fired, the disengagement . Gotta make the general fan excited enough to like their heads in the hunty.

The former Rivals150 he’s underwhelmed during his time at Wake Forest, but a change of scenery with a big man coach like Burgess could do wonders for him.

Three of the first four guys taken are players we’ve seen. We had no answer for Marvin Harrison Jr. Hope he’s great for my Cardinals.

Glad the Bears and Patriots took Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniel’s. I can continue to cheer against both teams. Hard for me to believe those two are the best players in college football. Time will tell.

This one smells of a major endorsement to Andy Reid from Whittingham, Scalley, and Shah. I like it.

Craig Smith is gonna have trouble fielding a full roster for next season at this point.
