I’ve been at most a very casual NFL fan, but now that CFB has transitioned to the pro model, I’ve realized just how much CFB is an absolutely garbage dump trash of a sports operation. Not only do I no longer enjoy CFB, I’ve actually come to hate it for being a travesty.
Even casually following the NFL, I really appreciate the grasp that NFL fan bases have on the importance of the GM role, roster management, and salary structuring.
Based on the talent level on the field I’d wager that most hard-core NFL fans have a better grip on these concepts than the Utah football staff does collectively. They’ve been caught with their pants around their ankles with respect to the transition to the pro model.
#1) Utah doesn’t have a lot of money to spend.
#2) Utah spent a lot of its money on injured/injury prone guys.
I’d guess that once Cam left the field, Utah has a lot less NiL salary on the field than other B12 teams.
I think KW knows how to win games, but he also knows how to suck the fun out of fandom like no other. I don’t get the idea that he’s any better at sucking up to the billionaire class for money either.
I’m probably being super unfair to Robert Blechen who’s likely a good dude in a limited role built for the old model, but what this program needs more than anything else is a GM of equal stature to KW.
And god forbid KW “retires” into a GM role because KW is absolute trash in this role.
