It’s the night before one of the most fun days of the year AND… everything is locked into place with no surprises pending. I’d love to be able to have some predictions to throw out there, I’d love to make you smile and make you mad with nuggets, but instead, here’s the stuff to look forward to tomorrow…

-All 19 commits are expected to sign tomorrow, plus two returned missionaries: Simote Pepa and Jonny Fanaika.

-Coveted cornerback prospect Ceyair Wright, will be announcing his decision on January 2nd through The All-American Bowl. While he’s long been assumed to go to USC. Wright favorite coach and the one he has the best relationship with is Sharrieff Shah.

Here is everyone arriving early for spring ball:
Simote Pepa
Jonny Fanaika
Tevita Fotu
Trey Reynolds
Mason Tufaga
Veltray Jefferson
Jonah Elliss
Cole Bishop
Darrien Stewart

Trying to arrive for spring ball:
Peter Costelli

Costelli was set to arrive for the spring, then the Pac-12 looked as though they’d play in the spring and so did California HS ball. Because of this, Costelli reversed course and wanted to play his senior year, since there wouldn’t have been a spring camp initially for the Utes. Now, California is likely canceling HS football period for the school year and Costelli is left scrambling.

The belief is that he’ll be fine, but his family has enlisted former Ute and Ute Nation contributor Anthony White—who is a teacher out there—to help him navigate through his course work.

For the remainder of the 2021 recruiting season, expect the Utes to be stingy. They won’t just reach on prospects. There are a lot of unknowns from players who didn’t get to play their senior seasons or go to camps. It’s unfortunate for those kids, but in Utah’s case, they’re only wanting the kids that they were sold on as juniors if they didn’t have a senior year. Every year the Utah coaches jump on kids that need to show them one or two improvements leading into their senior years, so it’s unfortunate that it robbed them of any further evaluations.

The staff is also expected to take advantage of the transfer portal—with no transfer penalty this year—and if they play their cards right, the program could be set for a promising 2021 season.

Every year I love that the former players like doing the signing day film evaluations, so here’s something to be excited about… Christian Drews’ favorite of the linebackers is Trey Reynolds and Mason Tufaga, “by far.”
