I'm not claiming any original thoughts here. But...

I have been thinking about the trajectory of the mens basketball program. I realize that it will take some good luck, and/or avoiding bad luck, but it seems to me like the program is on track to become really special. By comparison, I could see us becoming on par with Arizona.

Here is what we have currently in place or in the pipeline,

A top 20 team
Current and likely future NBA players
A fantastic coaching staff
A premier conference
A great arena
A great fanbase, MUSS included
At least one big booster who wants to build the program to greatness
A really good program historically
A premier basketball facility under construction

Here is what we lack,

Recent history as a big time tournament team,
Premier recruiting location, ala UCLA. But that hasn't stopped Kentucky, Kansas, and others.

I am really excited and hopeful to see this program continue making strides. I wonder how they will do in the NCAA tournament this year. I tend to think the lack of tournament experience will catch up with them at some point.

It would be really interesting to get Coach Majerus, may he rest in peace, thoughts on things. He didn't have all of these pieces in place when he was here of course.

Go Utes!
