Been gone for a week and then return to read some of the stuff on this board. All I can say is wow. This isn't to protect one coach either, but rather all coaches.
And yes Vegas I realize this is a fan forum but my hell some people are just nutz.
Already some of conceded this season for numerous reasons. We don't have a QB coach that can develop them, we are doomed since our recent RM has jumped to the number two spot. TW has been a three year starter and has not improved, he has balls batted down at the LOS, at his height something is terribly wrong. We are doomed.
First off as Arron Rodgers would say, "r-e-l-a-x folks".
Well let's start with TW. Contrary to popular belief he is not a three year starter, he has started games in all three years yes but injuries have not allowed him to start three straight years. Also this is the first time in his career that he gets the same offense, that's huge people. You guys call all these great PAC QBs are developing but if you look closer it's the fact they have experience in the same offense for all four years. As a freshman most are lost, then they start to pick it up, by year three and four they can run the offense with their eyes closed. It's as much familiarity as development .
As for the balls being batted down at the LOS I recall in my own coaching career. We had a tall QB who threw over the top but when the pass play called for shorter routes he would drop down side arm. We asked why and he simply noted that if he threw short over head then his ball would sail high overtime but if he dropped then it didn't . Not saying that's the case here but simply pointing out it could be a factor.
Also, as has been mentioned many times before, we don't get the high end QB or WRs to Utah. Why is that? Simple no QB wants to go to an offense where they only throw a third of the plays and no top notch WR wants to go to a team where the recruiting pitch is "we'll throw you the ball four maybe five times a game". So basically you guys better hope this years offense really opens up and then we can get some better quality players at those two spots.
QB is probably the hardest position to recruit and develop. Some of the top throwers don't pan out (Heaps) since they aren't hard workers. Some really good QBs slip through the cracks, Alex Smith only had two offers, the Utes lucked out on getting him.
I believe both Wynn and TW are good qbs but injuries held them back.
Now if we are going to rag on having a qb coach that can't develop players I'd like to know what the evidence is. This is his second year, he was the QB coach and OC at SUU but many will simply say that "sure but that isn't the PAC12", where he set school records for offense. If he's getting heat for TW not developing then he should also get some credit or praise for the quick development of Chase Hansen, since he has shot up to number two in such a short time. I'm being a little TIC but also a little serious as well. It goes both ways.
Let's give this offense a chance, Harding and ARod know what they are doing, contrary to what many here think. Flame away
