Coach Kyle Whittingham:
The defense put up great numbers – must put up more havoc plays. Special teams created the lone takeaway in the game. Lots of positives coming out of the game. Great to see the guys play with a chip on their shoulders.
Washington St. is playing very good defense which makes them hard to deal with.
We’re a lot better football team when we run the ball.
The degree of difficulty gets higher playing teams like Washington St and UW – but it was great to have a game like UCLA to build confidence.
Marquise Blair is out for the season with a lower leg injury and most likely spring. If either Chase or Corrion goes down – Philip Afia steps in.
Not that big of a deal that Troy Taylor went into the booth from a coach and players standpoint.
Pass rush has just slowed way down and can’t put a finger on it. Hunter Dimick did so much for the Utes last year.
No fingers were being pointed during the down time.
Mike Leach is an outstanding QB Coach. Luke has size, makes good decisions, and throws accurate passes.
Tyler is good blend of both running the ball and being a good runner. He did a better job of not taking direct hits.
You do a lot of the listening when Mike Leach is talking (which is fine with Kyle). He’s a really good person, intelligent, and personable.
Paul Toala played very well, he was a bright spot on the offensive line. Lo had to leave the game and Paul played center. He was really a bright spot.
Cody Ippolito is a popular guy on the team, gets along with everyone on the team. He knows football, he’s extremely smart, has a high football IQ.
Washington St. have a good QB for what they want to do and get what they need from the running game to make it work.
The must have a different approach this week on offense with how good WSU is with speed and athleticism.
