I actually learned this information Thursday during football practice but with covering football and keeping track of basketball I kind of forgot about it until now. Appropriately it's Tory's 21st birthday today so here is what I know:
I was told she was happy and smiley even when her accident initially took place. She apparently was in the locker room joking while she was being checked out, and was smiling and flashing the U for pictures after her surgery on Monday. The ones affected most by her accident were her teammates and coaches. I've been told this sunny disposition is really nothing new or surprising and that this is how Tory always is no matter how bad a situation may be.
I was also told that she has to be completely off both of her feet for the next eight weeks which is mind-boggling. I would go absolutely nuts. Strangely enough though because Tory is so strong in her upper body she hasn't lost too much of her independence unlike the average human being. When she's not able to use her scooter chair (initially she was given a blue one and she told Megan Marsden that she wouldn't be caught dead in it so they found her a red one) she's getting around on her hands/arms.
After Tory's accident when Corrie Lothrop had to follow her up UCLA gymnast Samantha Peszek went up to Lothrop gave her a hug and told her she could do it. I was also told the UCLA team stopped what they were doing to watch Utah's last three floor routines to clap and cheer them on which I thought was a very classy move.
