It was a mix of guys today...
Whittingham—
-Feels like all three running backs are very capable.
-The dead period should be done on June 1st. Expects players to be able to visit their campus, but not be able to go out and see players. The meetings to decide will be on Thursday.
-Hopes they can go watch HS games starting in September.
-Likes being able to talk to juniors on the phone or Zoom, something that had been limited contact before this year. Hopes they keep that.
-DeVaughn Vele and Money Parks have stepped up. The top four are clear with Covey, Dixon, Vele, and Enis. They still need to add one transfer receiver.
-After exit interviews next week, the players will be on their own until June 1st. Then summer development is a nine week period with one week of time off.
-Feels good about the depth at corner. No changes to the starters. Faybian Marks is the first off the bench. Lacarea Pleasant-Johnson has had a really nice spring.
Harding—
-Ford has a high football IQ that does a great job communicating on the line. He’s a really calming presence for the young guys, so staying at center is a natural fit for him.
-Harding, Whittingham, and Shah had a Zoom call with him after Christmas about why he should come back instead of going pro.
-Really feels like those five free games helped his guys. Specifically mention Jaren Kump and Sataoa Laumea.
-They’re going against an extremely good defensively line, so their development is speeding up.
-Believes they have 8-9 offensive linemen ready to help them win.
-The majority of the 8-9 guys are all underclassmen.
-Bam’s mental errors have decreased quite a bit and his body weight is much more under control.
Ford—
-Nick is having the line over at his place after the spring game to build comradery.
-He’s going to go to California and decompress for a minute, but he’s told everyone he’ll be back early, to help out and jump in the film room.
-Feels really comfortable at center.
-Likes what’s going on with the freshmen along the offensive line. They don’t restock they reload. New guys are making the competition very tough.
-Brewer is very relaxed at quarterback. Whatever he does he does it with confidence and doesn’t hesitate.
-Last season he got his draft grade back and he was likely no worse than 3-4 round and could go higher. Still in the report it was started they expected him to increase his stock. He believes they can make another run like 2018 and 2019 again this year and wants to be a part of it.
-Gave himself two days to regret not going to the NFL and move on, but the regret didn’t even last two days.
Brewer—
-Coaches and teammates have made it a really easy transition for him.
-Offense has made improvements every day.
-Really feels he fits Ludwig’s offense and they’ve had a lot of explosive plays.
-Chemistry with receivers is improving. Really made an emphasis to do throwing sessions with the guys in the winter too.
-He sees the potential in this group compared to the 2018-19 Utes squad, but you can tell he’s hesitant to heap too much praise.
-Competition is great and it makes a great football team. Gets along great with Rising. The balance is there on when to compete and when not to compete and both him and Rising understand that.
-He's always had a competitive nature and a bit of a chip on his shoulder.
