First off, this commit has nothing to do with Utah not expecting to land someone. Covey was a recruit they were going to take no matter what. Covey wants to play a year before his mission, but he's also told me that he'll do whatever benefits the team. He's been a Utah lean, honestly since he got his offer (Utah was his first). Every time he went off the record with me, he'd say, Utah. Utah State and BYU recently made things interesting, partially because of the overblown Utah drama that some were putting out there. Not only is Britain on board, his BYU brothers were also wanting him to go to Utah.
Aside from the coaching staff and being competitive in the Pac-12, Covey loves how his game plays out at Rice-Eccles. He told me there's just something about the field.
