INDIANAPOLIS--The Utah gymnastics team has been publicly recognized by the NCAA for posting a multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) in the top 10 percent of all gymnastics teams in the country for the four-year period ending in 2013-14. It marks the second time the Ute gymnastics team has been so honored—the other in 2011-12—and the eighth time a Utah team has placed in the top 10 percent of all squads within their respective sports.
The NCAA’s announcement is part of the overall Division I academic reform effort and is intended to highlight teams that demonstrate a commitment to academic progress and retention of student-athletes. The APR for all NCAA Division I schools will be announced on May 27.
The latest multiyear APR is based on measurements from the 2010-11, 11-12, 12-13 and 13-14 academic years. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team’s academic performance.
The NCAA Public Recognition Announcement is the latest academic award for the Ute gymnasts, who last month placed second at the NCAA Championships in a photo finish.
Senior Georgia Dabritz, the 2015 NCAA uneven bar champion, was named the Pac-12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year and is a candidate for CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America honors after making the All-District At-Large team recently.
Dabritz, who earned a 4.0 GPA spring semester, is one eight Ute gymnasts to earn All-Pac-12 Academic honors. Other members of Utah’s two-time defending Pac-12 Championship team to earn All-Pac-12 Academic recognition were Kailah Delaney, Breanna Hughes, Becky Tutka, Tory Wilson, Kassandra Lopez, Corrie Lothrop and Baely Rowe.
Last year, they helped Utah lead the nation in grade point average among women’s gymnastics teams. This year’s rankings have not been released.
