I just got off the phone with Oak Park High School Center Riley Battin, who Utah has been recruiting for quite some time now. Riley is 6'8", 240 lbs, and has been a double-double machine in high school, averaging 24.7 points and 12.3 rebounds as a junior.
Riley said that he has been hearing a lot from Utah and that they are one of his favorite schools at the moment. He's also hearing from Davidson, Vanderbilt, Georgia Tech, Virginia, and Northwestern.
Riley is looking for a program that will allow him to fit in well in the offensive system, with th coaching staff and players, and will develop him into an NBA player, and said that he has been impressed with Utah's recent success of putting guys in the NBA. Coach Krystkowiak and Coach Connor have been in touch with Riley most, and they've known him for quite a while, so Riley says they have a very solid relationship built.
Riley said he likes the tradition of Utah basketball as well as how the big men are usually the focus of the team, and he plans on narrowing things down after this month is over. Once he has a top 5 in mind, he'll take his visits and make a final decision this fall before the high school season begins.
