I caught up with three star SAF/LB prospect Hirkley Latu this evening. Latu was committed to BYU until this afternoon. He met with Coach Mendenhall and decommitted in person. He's still considering BYU, but is also getting pushed hard by USU and Oregon State. Cal has also offered.
Utah has offered Latu, and he'll be on campus tomorrow for an unofficial visit. The timing kind of sucks because the staff is in Texas doing a satellite camp, but he'll be able to see the facilities and get a better sense of the program. His recruiter is Lewis Powell, and the two got to know each other while Lewis was in Hawaii, so there's definitely a relationship there.
Understandably, the kid isn't in a hurry to make another commitment, so this one is going to play out for a while. He's planning on serving an LDS mission before enrolling. A full article is coming.
