I also had the chance to talk with four-star Miami Central CB Chandler Jones tonight. Chandler is listed at 5'10", 168 lbs, and is currently rated as the 29th best CB in the nation. Jones recently released a top 5 of Utah, Vanderbilt, Louisville, Kentucky, and South Carolina. On film, Jones is impressive. He's a speedy, instinctual player with a good ability to swivel his hips and stay with his man, and a knack for making a play on the ball.

Chandler has already had a chance to visit Vanderbilt and will be visiting Kentucky and Louisville in the coming weeks. He may not visit Utah during the summer, but he said he wants to get out on a visit during the season. He will be an early enrollee, so he wants to have his decision made before football season is over.

Coach Shah has been Jones's primary recruiter, and Chandler said of Shah, "He's a great guy, he's very effective in the way he teaches, he's just a great guy." Shah visited Jones over the spring, and Jones said he left a lasting impact. Chandler also knows and speaks often with current Utes Donovan Thompson, who also played for Miami Central, and Demari Simpkins, who he grew up with.

Obviously Utah is in a good spot with Jones if they're in his top 5, but the fact that they're the only west school on that list speaks volumes about the job that the coaches and program have done not only in recruiting Chandler, but in establishing a reputation of being a school that develops and sends DBs to the NFL regularly in order to catch the attention of some of these talented Florida kids.

I'll have more on Jones in an upcoming article with some quotes from him, for now, here's his profile. Stay tuned...
