Head coach Larry Krystkowiak
On guarding Chasson Randle:
It started with Brandon. Kenneth had a part in it. Delon, our whole backcourt did a really good job at making things hard for him. Stanford did the same to Brandon. They did a nice job guarding him. Randle is leading our conference in scoring, a 2,000-point scorer. He's going to be a handful all the time and we were just trying to make him take tough shots and Brandon's been doing that a lot. He guards the best player on the other team in the backcourt quite often. He continues to do a terrific job.
On the play of Dallin Bachynski and Brekkott Chapman:
The motion offense was really good for us. I haven't seen our team pass big-to-big as well as we did tonight. I think we had four passes where one big passed to another big and it was terrific. Those guys got a little bit contagious. We worked on it a lot in practice, that part of the motion offense and where their spacing is. It was fantastic. There were some really good possessions. Stanford did a good job. They were on to a lot of our play calls and were prepared. They did a good job, but we collapsed the defense a little bit. It wasn't the smoothest night on offense, but I thought the passing was terrific. For Brandon to have eight assists mixed with our big guys being able to pass so well, good night for them.
On the production by the bench:
It's awesome. We out-scored them 33-5. That speaks a lot. We've got a deep team. Stanford is in a unique situation at the moment where they've got some guys at the top of the list leading the league in minutes, so I think some of that came into play. We were able to stay a little bit fresher. It was a grind-it-out, physical game. It wouldn't have been an easy game to referee. There were a lot of things going on out on the court. Our guys were able to stay fresh and come off the bench and they've been doing that consistently.
On Utah's play in the second half:
The first half was kind of punch/counter-punch and we couldn't really get any momentum. The second half, it started with getting some stops and getting out in transition. The motion offense in the second half, we tweaked a few things and those were most of our adjustments at half time. We added a couple wrinkles in areas based on how they were guarding us and our guys really bought in.
Dallin Bachynski
On his play this evening:
I'm just glad we were able to get the win. Jakob got in foul trouble and I'm just glad I could get in and play well and help my team.
On going against Stefan Nastic:
We talked about guarding him and how we have to do things differently. I was able to get in front of him with a charge or two, one probably wasn't, but I thought we did a nice job collectively.
On his last-second shot in the first half:
I had a couple go in for me. I was a little lucky and the coaches said my floater looked good.
On what Coach Krystkowiak said to him before the game:
Coach wants me to have a good year because I'm a senior. He said it would be a good matchup against Nastic and the team was going to need me today.
On what the crowd provided for them tonight:
Everyone out there is part of our family. We talked about a couple that was in a bad accident and they follow us. It's amazing to know that there are so many people out there rooting for us.
Delon Wright:
On what changed during the game to benefit Utah:
We started making shots. We also started playing better on defense. We didn't give them any layups or any uncontested 3's. It was a solid defensive effort. We do that best. We play good team defense and try and take away team's best scorers.
On playing at home:
When our crowd is screaming at the other team and then when we play well, we feed off their energy. They really motivate us and boost our confidence.
On guarding Chasson Randle:
Brandon did a really good job of contesting his jumpers and layups. We helped off other guys after that and tried to even make it hard for him to catch the ball.
Stanford head coach Johnny Dawkins
Overall thoughts:
I didn't think we finished out the half well. I give them a lot of credit. They made some really good plays down the stretch at the end of the first half. I give them credit for the plays they made. At the start of the second half, we knew we had to get off to a good start and we didn't. They got off to a really fast start to the half. They had an 11-2 run and that kind of put the lead to the mid-teens. At that time, we had to claw back at that point. They are a good team. They do a very good job and they executed well tonight.
On Chasson Randle:
Utah did a good job. They paid a lot of attention to him. Their defense was really sound. It was just one of those games where you give them credit for how they defended and we move on. It was a tough loss. But every loss is tough in conference.
