Britain Covey:
-"I don't know if words can express how frustrating injuries have been"
-First game he has been healthy since the first Washington game in 2018
-It felt great, a W is a W. This team is young and you can sense it, there are young guys making mistakes as well as older players.
-Having the first two games being cancelled were so emotionally draining.
-Closing games takes experience, sometimes playing with a lead is sometimes more difficult than playing behind.
- All great teams know how to play with a lead.
- What impresses me most about Ty, is he took his fumble against Washington and made it up in his mind that something like that will not happen again.
-He is dynamic out of the backfield, has great hands and does not have a big head.
-Last week I was not supposed to play and adrenaline kicked in for a few plays.
- This week there was not a conversation about holding him back like previous weeks.
Devin Lloyd:
-We were always ready to get the ball back to the offense
- Feels great to get a win, we worked so hard during the offseason and during the week.
-Losses are extremely tough and we never expect to lose, still a great feeling to go get a win.
- Need to be more disciplined and understand all of the rules (regarding penalties.) I don't want to speak about the refs, but we need to do our part.
- It comes down to doing your job and taking it play by play.
Ty Jordan:
- I just want to give all the credit to the O-line. We work so hard in practice to make sure everything is right and that resulted in a great game.
- Having more time has helped me catch up with the speed and sped up the acclimation process.
-I feel really prepared, I have a great coach and great running backs that I can bounce ideas off.
- In the fourth quarter, I felt like Oregon St. started to notice more key things and they adjusted really well.
- Scoring my first touchdown felt amazing and so exhilarating. I have dreamed my whole life of scoring touchdowns as a college running back and that finally came true.
Jatravis Broughton
- We face adversity every day and so it was nothing new. It started to get out there and we don't back down, we just up the intensity.
- Need to clean up the penalties and gave up too many yards but when the time came, we finished it.
- There were some calls that didn't need to happen and we got too touchy, we just need to clean it up for next week.
- We are definitely getting better game by game. By this time next season, we are going to be great.
Kyle Whittingham:
-Proud of the guys for hanging in there. Had to get some crucial stops at the end. Disappointing that it got to the point that it did.
-Completely lost control of the game after being up 30-10.
-Ty Jordan is showing what his capabilities are.
-Offense did take care of the ball and that was critical.
-Covey's punt return was the difference in the game.
- A lot of foolish penalties. That is all on us on coaches and having the players more tuned in. The coaches have their work cut out for them.
- No time to enjoy this victory, now to focus on Colorado.
- We got too vanilla and non imaginative. We wanted to milk the clock but there is no reason to not stay creative.
-Three three and outs is terrible and that is on us as coaches. There is no one that is pleased. Credit to the players for hanging in.
- Ty Jordan is starting to separate himself and Wilmore was not really available tonight. His health was not good. Brumfield is a tough kid and a good short yard guy and we are just beginning to see Bernard's skillset.
-Ty Jordan is definitely the top back.
-Very proud of the young guys and the defense in general. We blew some coverages and did not get the correct call a few times. There are a lot of things to correct. We essentially handed them a touchdown on that one drive with so many penalties.
- Ty Jordan is getting adjusted to the college game and there was a little bit of a process and he is starting to get some more confidence. He is the guy that can be very productive. He did not put the ball on the ground after putting extra effort on ball protection in practice. Need to get him the ball more in the throw game.
- Extremely frustrating to get field goals. The game should have been blown open early on and it shouldn't have been close. Jake needs to put the ball in the end zone. He did not have a bad night and did not have an interception but he missed some throws to open receivers. We left points on the field and to us, a field goal in the red zone is a loss. Not the players fault, us as coaches need to be better.
-Disappointed to not convert on the short yardage situations and it is my fault. We have a long list of things to work on and that (short yardage situations) is high on the list. I do not have any confidence to go for it on fourth and short. They run block well but we need to look harder at schematics in those situations.
- Awesome to see Covey back and the punt return was "Vintage Covey" not many guys in the nation can make that play. He is such a weapon for us.
-Every game is like a neutral field now and there is no advantage this year. The game environment is so generic and "weird" and you don't even know where you are playing this week. It's a disadvantage for us because we have such an awesome environment. We need to create our own juice.
