I've been in a full day training session all week so I missed a lot of the drama, but I am absolutely shocked that any reputable source could possibly argue that BYU had a better recruiting class than Utah. I shouldn't underestimate BYU and 1320's ability to spin things for the positive, but this is Iraqi Information Minister Level of spin. Yes, this is a post about BYU.

When looking at another school's recruiting class, I ask myself one simple question. How many of their recruits would Utah have taken?

Applying this rule to BYU's recruiting class doesn't look good for the cougars. I am certainly open to disagreement from Dan, Alex or whomever else.

If Utah had the opportunity to take any of BYU's recruits, I think Kyle would take the following:

Mika Tafua. I'll admit it, he is a good player who had lots of interest from big programs like UW and USC. I would have loved to have seen him sign with Utah.

Kieffer Longson. Utah offered and really wanted him a few weeks ago. Also had an offer from Ohio State and UCLA. However, given the big Olinemen that Utah signed I don't know who he would replace this year, but since he is a sign and send I'm sure they would have taken him anyway. Good player although given BYU's history of taking talented, highly recruited linemen and turning them into lazy tubs of lard who can't even start I wouldn't be surprised to see him on the milk carton in a few years. Seriously, has there been a position group that under performs more at BYU than Olineman? Ryker Matthews and Kearsly were both four stars and both have been huge disappointments. Maybe if Ryker had chosen Utah things would have worked out for him. Oh well.

Tevita Mounga. Looks like a good player with major offers. Having said that Utah didn't need any DTs this round, but they did offer him a long time ago and would have taken him as a sign and send, (not sure if he has mission plans).

And... that's it. Out of however many huge recruits BYU had, I can only think of three that Utah would take. Sure they offered Lake and he is highly ranked, but Utah could have thrown their hat in the ring 2 weeks ago and chose not to. By the way, according to cougarboard, every program in the country was after Lake including Alabama. He strikes me as the kind of kid Utah would have loved to have had in the mountain west days, but not so much now.

Rivals has Ieremia as their 3rd highest rated recruit.. Meh. Utah didn't offer. Maybe they've seen enough slow, short linebackers.
Kody Wilstead? Utah probably could have had him too but said no thanks.
