Spent some time at a family reunion over the 4th and got an update from some family who are pretty plugged into BYU hoops.
Nick Emery won't play on their European trip due to a serious cut on his foot and might not be back in time for the start of the season. Impact of his injury is still tbd but, at a minimum, he will miss most of the preseason and could miss more. This is coming off serious shoulder surgery. So, not the start BYU was hoping he would get off to.
Aytes is not healing quickly and is another question mark as is Jeff Chatman's son. There are a lot of BYU fans who are expecting big things from both of them this year. Neither is likely to deliver this year, if ever.
Still, BYU should be pretty good. About on par with last year, maybe down some. Given the weakness of the WCC in the middle and bottom teams, still tough to finish lower than third.
