at least as far as the ACC is concerned, they may not hurt our SOS as much as I thought...
The ACC is reportedly changing its stance on BYU. Last year, when the conference announced that it -- along with the SEC -- would require its schools to play at least one non-conference game against a Power 5 opponent, BYU failed in its attempt to convince the conference that it should be considered one.
According to ESPN.com's Brett McMurphy, that stance is changing.
This would be very good news for BYU. As an independent program, the Cougars were already facing a challenge getting into the College Football Playoff, as they need to put together a schedule impressive enough to garner the CFP Selection Committee's attention. With both the ACC and SEC not considering it a Power 5 opponent, that made it nearly impossible for BYU to get games scheduled against teams from those conferences.
But now ACC opponents are on the table.
It will be interesting to see if the SEC follows the ACC's lead and changes its stance as well.
