Here are the main points from Coach Whittingham's post-practice interview today:

  • The team continues to show improvement every day, and at this point the defense is ahead of the offense, which is what Whittingham expected. He says right now the team is in pretty good shape.
  • Whitt singled out Julian Blackmon, Corrion Ballard, and Terrell Burgess as guys who are doing very well in camp in the secondary.
  • Guys are still being moved around on the offensive line due to some players being unavailable for practice. Whitt said the line situation needs to be settled soon but that they still have time to figure it out.
  • Darrin Paulo spent some time at tackle today, and Whitt said that there's a case for Paulo to move outside and Leka to remain inside, but that nothing is settled yet.
  • Darren Carrington was not present at practice today, but Whitt said he was just taking care of some business and should be back with the team either tomorrow or Wednesday. He also said that there are no plans for Carrington to miss any games due to his problems at Oregon. No carry over punishment, in other words.
  • Tareke Lewis and Derrick Vickers are still not present, Whitt said their situation is looking "more positive than it did last week", but it's still not a done deal.
  • Raelon Singleton is back! He's one of the team's leaders and makes the team better. Whitt also complimented Tyquez Hampton and said he's making more plays and understanding his role in the offense better.
  • The team hopes to have two QBs taking reps by sometime next week and name a starter shortly thereafter. Williams and Huntley are getting most of the reps right now and Bateman is taking what's left over.
  • Some newcomers Whitt mentioned that have been standing out are Darren Carrington, Jaylon Johnson, John Penisini, Jordan Agasiva, Bryan Thompson, Bronson Boyd, and Jaylen Dixon.
  • The top two kickers are Chayden Johnston and Matt Gay. (Gay is a senior walk-on transfer from UVU) Gay could also qualify for a hardship waiver, giving him another year of eligibility.
