This has been in the works for several weeks, but now it's out of the bag (Coach Whit talked about it on KFAN this morning). Jason Thompson has been moved from QB to safety. This isn't a really surprising development, but now it's official. Thompson was able to get a few reps in the bowl game - mostly at receiver and on special teams. This is going to make the position battle at safety during spring ball a lot more fun to watch in addition to giving the Utes even more depth at the position.
With Thompson changing positions and Adam Schulz transferring, Utah now has six scholarship quarterbacks on the roster:
Travis Wilson (SR)
Kendal Thompson (SR)
Brandon Cox (SO)
Conner Manning (SO)
Donovan Isom (FR)
Chase Hansen (FR)
I wouldn't be surprised to see one more QB transfer out following spring ball, depending on how the depth chart plays out. I've heard rumblings of one or two that are exploring their options (I'm obviously not going to name names, because it isn't fair to the player) but I do think that they will wait until after spring to make the decision.
Spring football is going to be a lot of fun.
