-When the season was over I had some opportunities come up and coachwork came calling. Being able to see the program from the outside and seeing all the success that they’ve had over a long period of time winning conference championships, it was a great opportunity and a no-brainer for him to join such a great program.

-The offense is set up dependent on the personnel and getting the best players in the best places to succeed. It starts heavily with the quarterback, and then the offensive line and what they can do best. Then it goes to the other skill positions.

-His offense starts with the “who,” and then the “what” they’re doing and “how” they're doing it. The “how”’is the culture. The execution is the “what.”

-He’s always admired the competitive spirit in the culture of Utah Football over the years.

-It’s huge that Dampier followed him from New Mexico to Utah. There will be some tweaks and adjustments to the system, but it’s big that he has his guy that already knows the ins and outs and can help with the implementation and transition of the offense.

-Dampier joining him at Utah was not a guarantee. In the new days of NIL, Dampier had plenty of opportunities because of his play last season.

-Running is a big part of Dampier‘s game, and you have to be mindful of it to protect him, but at the same time too you’ve gotta go to a players best asset to benefit the offense. They’ll be mindful of it, but at the same time too. Quarterbacks get hurt just as much standing in the pocket as they do running it, and Dampier seems to have a knack for absorbing hits and taking them the right way to preserve himself.

-If Utah tight end room continues to be a strength, that acknowledges they play with two tight ends on the field at the same time. He’ll adjust his schemes in personnel if the position group makes sense. He talked about the phrase, “earned not given” and mentioned that Utah’s tight end room has earned that role over the years.

-When looking at guys in the portal, of course it’s about evaluating their films, but it’s a large part about references that you can get with the relationships that you’ve built, with other people, on those players.
