Hey y'all - I just wanted to give some props to a couple of our women's sports - I'll be covering them in my Utah Sports Report episode this week but I thought I'd share a few thoughts here.

Gymnastics: After having one of their worst meets in recent memory last week (196.775 and a lost to ARIZONA), they bounced back on senior night with what I believe is the best score in school history - a solid win over Minnesota who scored a 197.85 BUT we were nearly perfect with a 198.575. There is definitely room for improvement on the vault and we weren't as good on the floor as we could have been but if we ever have that good of a performance on bars again, I'd be shocked - it was awesome. We had two performers (Sage Thompson - freshman - and Maile O'Keefe got back-to-back 10s and two others got 9.975s. Our score on bars was 49.80 - that's incredible. We got a 49.725 or better for the third time this year on the beam with Maile O'Keefe getting her 2nd 10 of the night. She finished the night on floor with a 9.95 and a score of 29.95 out of 30 for the 3 events she did. Grace McCallum was solid with a 39.675 in the all-around - she's a freshman and will be fun to watch throughout her career. We have lots of great young talent as well as the #1 recruit coming in next year. These gals are so much fun to watch.

Basketball: After finishing last season with a 5-16 record, it looked like Coach Lynn Roberts would be on the hot seat - she is now officially off the hot seat with a 20-10 record and a spot in tomorrows conference championship game against current national champion Stanford. The Lady Utes beat a very good #25 Oregon team who is HUGE and athletic and they are playing without their starting center and another key contributor. They are starting two freshmen and a sophomore. They have earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament with an expected seed of at least #9 - that was before they beat Oregon - it will be interesting to see what seed they actually get. They play Stanford tomorrow on ESPN 2 but the Cardinal's average margin of victory is 20+ ppg and they have a 33 game winning streak against PAC-12 opponents. We lost one game to them by 10 and the other game by about 27. I certainly don't expect them to win but this is a gritty team and it was fun watching them close out the game over a good Oregon team after I got home from the INCREDIBLE gymnastics meet.

Go Lady Utes!!
