It’s been a while since Vainuku signed with the Utes. For those that don’t remember, he signed in 2012, went on a mission, redshirted, played in a few games, and then medically retired last spring.
This isn’t a case of Vaha giving up on Utah, when a player medically retires, they can come back, but they have to get cleared and play for another school. Reshawn Hooker has a similar situation, but he chose to stay medically retired and get his degree at Utah—while other school approached him.
Good luck to Vainuku.
