Coach Whittingham had a brief interview this afternoon with the media. Here is what he mentioned:

  • There were no major injuries during the scrimmage on Saturday which was one of the main objectives. The first team offense and defense saw limited reps, leaving most of the time for the backups and the walk ons.
  • School started today and the players have begun the in-season practice schedule but the practice was intense today and there were no drop-offs in energy.
  • There is a position battle at the left guard spot and the coaches are stressing the need for someone to be consistent in this position and make the fewest mental mistakes. Nick Ford has proven he is capable but Orlando Umana has the experience needed. At this point the battle is equal.
  • The captains have done an outstanding job, leading the way and showing up every day. They demand excellence from the team and have held certain players accountable. The coaches are content and excited with the team's decision concerning the captains.
  • Jack Tuttle appeared on the team's leadership council because his peers think a lot of him and has performed on a high level since arriving to the program last spring.
  • On Friday, the coaches will release a depth chart that will include who will start this year as backup quarterback as well as who will fill in the last holes on the offensive line.
  • Coach Whittingham mentioned that he has been impressed by the decision making ability of Quarterback Tyler Huntley but also added that the quarterbacks have not been live this camp.
