(Bumphis had a gigantic smile when he was asked about Money Parks)
-“It’s so fun watching Money blow up.” Bumphis called the most rewarding part of training camp. Money has become a grown man and anything they ask him to do on or off the field, he does it. Everything about Parks this fall camp has been better. He talked about a conversation he had yesterday with Money dad where his dad talked about how much he’s grown.
-The WRs have all realized they all need to step up in the absence of Britain Covey. Bumphis notes that he’s trying to get all of his guys to know all three WR positions.
-In year two for him, he feels he’s more patient , even with a younger room. Bumphis has a lot better understanding of the offense. He called Ludwig brilliant and a mad scientist.
What we’re doing, how to do it, and then why we’re doing it. We’re all learning the why, now, to where this offense is going to go.
-Tao Johnson has been a WR for 12 practices now. He’s progressing every practice and taking as many reps as he can. The one thing that kept coming out of summer workouts was how fast Tao was. The trackers they wore were clocking him at 21-22 MPH.
-Sidney Mbanasor is freakishly athletic with great hands and a huge catch radius.
-The young WRs have done a great job soaking up the playbook and also listening to the veteran leadership.
-The leadership between Vele, Enis, and Dixon has been great.
-His challenge to the WRs to get so good that they have to get them the ball. Bumphis said they have the best TE room in the country and that the RB room is loaded. He wants his guys to force the issue that it’s a must to get them the ball.
-He wants guys who are competitive and just bust their tails and work. That’s how this group is and there’s never been an effort issue.
-Heading into Florida, he just wants his guys to do their jobs and focus on their strengths. Do their 1:11 and they’ll be fine.
-The slot role will be dictated based on schemes and situations. Dixon, Johnson, Ti’Quan Gilmore, and Vele can all play the slot.
-Bumphis is undefeated in The Swamp, 1-0, and he wants to keep it that way.
