You guys have heard me talk about Burgess as an assistant from the moment there was going to be a new staff. It’s been a no-brainer. I know Chris likes coaching under Mark Pope—honestly anyone would—but Utah is home and it’s the Pac-12. Nothing BYU can do to change that. He also has a daughter that will be a freshman on the U volleyball team next season. He’s a rising coaching star and he’ll be in the mix for the BYU head job when Pope leaves, but that’s not something that’ll keep him staying at BYU.
