Fifth Metartarsal Fracture (foot) If performed with pins and heals correctly, could be back in 3 to 4 months. Apparently, this problem can be handled without surgery; however, Surgery can help the bone heal in a correct position and return the patient to full function. It also may reduce the time needed for immobilization and improve the chance of healing compared to nonsurgical treatment. (I just took the procedures off of an on-line thread concerning this type of injury.)
