Line: -17.5
Coming off a thumping of Colorado, where the 68-61 final score didn't quite reflect the Bears' dominance, CAL now heads into the JMHC on the back side of their 2 game mountain road swing. CAL led Colorado by as many as 11 points in the second half and had 10 shots from beyond the arc fall their way. Jordan Matthews accounted for half of those as he went 5-7 from downtown on the night. California is rolling heading into tonight's matchup, having won 5 consecutive games to climb to a respectable 16-9 on the season. The Bears now rest at #7 in the PAC 12 standings with a conference record of 6-6.
Junior guard, Tyrone Wallace has stepped up his game of late for the Bears and he leads them in nearly every statistical category (17.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists.) He has help from Jordan Matthews, who is averaging nearly 15 points a game. Senior Forward David Kravish is their biggest front-court threat with averages of nearly 11 points and 7 rebounds per game. CAL can go about 10 players deep when all healthy but they typically only go about 7-8 deep in the rotation.
Utah is averaging 74.2 points per game and shooting an effective 50% from the field, but the real strength of this team is actually on the other end of the court with a defense that is ranked 10th in the nation in points allowed. Utah is clearly the better shooting team too but CAL can hang with the Utes in the paint. Both teams average about 36 rebounds a game. If they are able to get some second chance put-backs and bang with Poeltl, Bach and Co. they can keep it close. Simply stated, Utah hasn't lost at the JMHC in nearly a year and I see Utah winning this one going away. Although, I do think CAL can keep it within 17.5 points though. Look for big games from Delon and Chap as they exploit their match-ups.
