There's been several articles written lately speculating about the future of college football. Most of them focus on the impact that shifting TV distribution will have on the sport. They all begin with the assumption that cable cord cutting will intensify, revenues will be slashed and the sport will enter some hunger games type scenario where the the strong will sacrifice the weak. This article predicts the shakeout will result in this 32 team consolidation.

Big North: PSU, OSU, Michigan, MSU, Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, ND

South East: UF, UGA, Tennessee, SC, FSU, Clemson, Miami, UNC

South West: Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Arkansas, TAMU, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State

West: Texas, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, USC, UCLA, Oregon, Washington

Stewart Mandel predicted the carnage would take us to this 24 team league.

East Division: Penn State, Miami, Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Clemson

Midwest Division: Notre Dame, Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Wisconsin

South Division: Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, LSU, Texas A & M

West Division: USC, UCLA, Oregon, Stanford, Texas, Oklahoma

It's interesting that in either case only 4 PAC-12 teams are invited to play in big boy football. The remainder would be forced to scramble to land in a new conference with drastically lower revenue streams.
