5 quick points I took away from practice
-Lowell Lotulelei looks like Will Sutton in his Junior year. His shear power and explosiveness will be one of the highlights of the Pac-12 when it comes to iinterior defensive linemen. Not only will he make plenty of great plays this year but maybe even more importantly to Utah's defensive scheme, Lowell will eat up double teams and create lanes for scraping linebackers to fill and make huge plays in the run game. Point and case being Chaz Walker when Star was taking up two or three blockers on any given down allowing Chaz to rack up TFLs and all-conference honors.
-Troy McCormick is a dangerous weapon that has matured and will continue to develop before the start of the season. Look we all know Booker is our guy and will have a great season, hopefully a Heisman front runner type, but if we use Troy as a counter in the right packages in certain parts of the game, he will be a game changer.
- TE position is probably the biggest question mark for the time being. There is some solid depth at the position but with guys like Westlee Tonga and Jake Murphey no longer around there just isn't that much size or experience. I don't think this will be a huge issue for the Utes this year but I definitely think it is the one position that needs the most catching up to do.
- Firstf full pad practice went generally how I expected, QBs had some nice throws and I think Travis was the most consistant and comfortable out there. WR made some good plays but also dropped some passes, OL I thought did well in run game but of course had some issues with blitz pickup and dealing with Jason Fanaika on the edge. LBs did okay but with Jared Norris not 100% and Paul still recovering I expected that. Our secondary could be the best Its been since 2008 Sugar Bowl team.
-Fifth point is that it was freakin hot...winter is definitely over. I tried to hide in the shadows as much as I could today.
