Much more balanced effort between the offense and defense today as Utah wraps up practice #8, not a full pad day, with the scrimmage coming Saturday.
1) The defense started the day off strong. In the first set of 11 on 11's, Chase Hansen settled in the pocket going through his reads. Then he saw Pita coming at him off his left side. Hansen panicked and list the ball in attempt to quick pass his throw. The ball came loose and Pita scored the ball and took it the distance. In a game it would have been reviewed to see when the ball left Hansen's hand.
2) The defense win the two minute reps, right after the offense abused them while practicing their redzone offense. On 3rd & 5 Wilson the the ball in front of Tyrone Smith and Jared Norris jumped to the ball and took that to the house as well.
3) To answer a question from Tuesday, Kylie Fitts is limited in practice. They didn't work the Pit today, but had him in a yellow jersey for no contact. He ran through all the drills and looked good. I don't know what his ailment is and didn't receive an answer about his return. Whatever it is, he didn't look bothered by any of the things he did today.
4) The defensive line just has a way of getting their hands up on the passes. Today Clegg, who was taking reps with the ones in Fitts' absence, batted down a Hansen ball in the redzone.
Later Dimick knocked down a Wilson pass, the play just before the Norris interception.
5) Another board member asked about Jake Jackson. He is out and moving around. He just isn't getting live reps due to the number of players competing for the second string minutes. Ena did mention him and said he will have his chances to prove himself on the scrimmage. He is about the size of Uaea Masina but had a bigger frame. In 7 on 7's, he we a second to slow from picking off a pass intended for Siale. He dive to the ball and did knock it down. He moves his hips exceptionally well for a backer.
