Being outdoors brought more energy to practice today. Without space limitations there was more offense against defense, 11 on 11's, and players started to really show their stuff. Shoulder pads come on this Saturday, then things will more telling.

1) Marcus Williams wins the day. Turnovers are the goal for the defense and Williams forced two of them today.

After Kenric Young caught a pass over the middle he attempted to turn up field. After being "hit" by multiple defenders the ball came loose and Williams was the first to jump on it.

The next came off a Huntley throw. Huntley, who has shown promise extending plays, rolled to his right and threw the ball up near anyone but his receivers. Williams jumped up and picked the ball off.

2) Active Hands- on two consecutive plays, Fitts and Mokofisi batted down William's passes at the line of scrimmage.

Multiple passes (I saw 8) were tipped on crossing routes. Guys are flying around like ball hawks.

3) They aren't in pads yet, but Sunia and C. Barton really move in the middle of the field.

Tauteoli takes good angles and stands up any running back coming up the middle. He plays smart.

Barton is fast. He has great instincts on where plays are going, probably from his days at safety. He will cover passes well and he blitzed off the edge multiple times today and disrupted things.

4) It's interesting to watch Coach Ena this year. Last year he didn't have much teaching to do, more so he just made sure his talented guys understood where to be.

Today he got down and was really technical with the guys. He pays attention to the smallest things. If his guys start going fast and lose technique, he instantly slows things down and teaches the concept over. He will not sacrifice technique for speed.

5) Coach Shah has a lot of veteran guys this year. That being said he is humbling them early. He complained that their technique got too big over the off-season. He spent a long time going over the smallest movements in attempt to tighten things up.

He told them that the small things "need to be automatic" and they can't advance until they are.
