Whittingham interview notes 3/19

-First day in full pads and live work.

-Isaac Wilson has assimilated to P5 football really well. He doesn’t get overwhelmed by the complexity of the game or the speed of the offense. He’s taking quality reps with him and Brandon Rose splitting the No. 2 reps.

-Wilson is putting in the time, he’s a smart kid and he’s in the film room constantly. They have no doubt that he’ll have complete command of the offense by the end of spring ball.

-Rising is shaking off the rust and getting his arm strength back. He’s their leader and it’s a whole diff feel with him out there.

-Dorian Singer hasn’t practiced yet, he’s been dealing with a minor lower leg injury. He looked really good in winter conditioning and they’re hopeful to get him back out next week.

-With replacing the safeties, there’s four that they really like: Nate Ritchie and Johnathan Hall look really good, they’re excited about what Gilman from Stanford is bringing, and Tao Johnson has a real opportunity to be special. Tao has made the transition from corner to safety seamlessly.

-Half the tight ends are in the training room right now, but fortunately Brant Kuithe isn’t one of them.

-Landen King still needs to add about 10 pounds to make his TE transition complete. He’s a great receiver and once he gains that weight, they expect him to be a great blocker, as well.

-Dallin Bentley is really starting to emerge after being injured for most of his first season at Utah.

Red Rock Tickets

My daughter and I always go to one Red Rock meet a year but her volleyball has gotten in the way. Her conflict for tomorrow just canceled. If anyone has unused tickets, let me know. I’d take up to 4 if they’re available for purchase.

I’ve tried Ticketmaster, stubhub, vivid seats etc and none have lower bowl available for 4 people. Any help is appreciated.

Coach Ludwig Interview Nuggets 3/13

Strategy for spring:

•Get the rust off of Cam

•Get Brandon Rose more comfortable in the system, he’s in his third year in the system; he had a good day yesterday.

•Lastly, acclimate Isaac Wilson to college football, he had a very good day, coaches are excited about those three.

Wide receivers:

•Dorian Singer had a good January and February in the strength and conditioning program, getting rave reviews from the strength coaches.

•His first exposure in the off season in their on the field work, very athletic, good change of direction, good speed player; demonstrated good ball skills in practice yesterday. Ludwig is excited about him, he’s been around the block and has great experience and football intellect.

Running backs:

•They know what Jaylon Glover and Micah Bernard are all about, it’s about developing the young guys.

•They hope Mike Mitchell will provide some power and size in the back field.

•Looking for some development from John Randle Jr., he’s made some strides in special teams and played for them a little bit, looking for him to step up his role a little bit.

•Dijon Stanley has that juice and energy, tremendous skill set there.

OL:

•Feels good about the length, athleticism and mass on the front, good players in the group — joked may the best five win out that starting spot.
